The venue for EDUCON this year was Vienna. However, due to Corona, the international conference will now take place as an online event from 21st to 23rd April. In this year’s motto “Women in Engineering”, however, there is a hidden reference to the Austrian capital – abbreviated to the word “WIEN”. This year’s event is being organized in close cooperation between Carinthia UAS<\/a> and UAS Technikum Wien<\/a> under the umbrella of the international engineering association IEEE. Over the three days of the conference, the organizers expect 300 participants from 52 nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is very gratifying that we are able to hold the conference with this large number of active participants despite the difficult times, even if it is only online,” adds Thomas Klinger, conference chair from CUAS. “But we hope for a repetition, so that we can meet in this Scientific Community at some stage soon in Vienna, as it was planned for this year.” EDUCON is the flagship conference of the IEEE Education Society and one of the world’s most important events in the field of STEM education. “This high-level conference aims to improve technical education in all areas and also makes an important contribution to ensuring and enhancing the quality of teaching in the technical segment,” explains Christian Kollmitzer, co-chair of EDUCON and vice rector of UAS Technikum Wien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were a total of 609 submissions this year, of which 265 outstanding contributions will now be presented at the event. In line with the thematic focus on “Women in Engineering”, the organizing team was able to attract a number of highly respected female keynote speakers. In addition, many of this year’s conference contributions refer to the main topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact of the Covid 19 pandemic is also reflected in the topics covered. Thus, numerous presentations deal with ideas on how high-quality teaching is possible under the current conditions. The topics covered in the “Special Sessions” range from “Education in the New Normal” to “Online Laboratories in Times of Corona” to “Cybersecurity Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic Era.” The complete list of topics can be found on the EDUCON webpage<\/a> under “Call for Papers”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
