The two-day visit to the Hungarian capital offered a packed programme involving a workshop on the manufacturing of medical devices, a transnational project meeting for Erasmus+ funded project MedTec+ and a networking event focused on finding synergies for future collaborations with academic institutions and companies. Mathias Forjan, Richard Pasteka, Lara Alina Sch\u00f6llbauer and Florian Enghuber from the Competence Center Medical Engineering & Integrated Healthcare at UAS Technikum Wien participated in these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshop and networking event<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and Heriot-Watt University (HWU)
organized a workshop and a networking event in Budapest (Hungary) on Tuesday 15th of
November for the preparation of European proposals on the topic of Manufacturing Medical Devices. Participants from a wide spectrum (academic institutions, SMEs and large companies) engaged in a discussion related to the challenges of manufacturing medical devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The global medical device market is expected to grow from around $495 Bn in 2022 to $721 Bn in 2029 (Fortune Business Insights) with Europe. The market is dominated by multinational companies whilst SMEs do not necessarily have the financial resources to get medical products to market. On the academic front, researchers are not aware that (1) medical device regulations can affect devices right at the design stage and (2) undervalue the importance of the involvement of the public and patient in their research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group of participants from the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien presented their view on the role of academic institutions in the medical device manufacturing process. The applied and industry-oriented approaches utilized in the courses taught at the UAS Technikum Wien were appreciated and well-received by the other participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transnational Project Meeting for Erasmus+ funded project MedTec+<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The goal of the Erasmus+ funded project MedTec+ is to develop and establish a framework for the multilingual use of learning management system modules to make knowledge about medical engineering technologies accessible to students or medical professionals with different requirements and prerequisites. These blended learning pilots can not only be used internationally in higher education but also offer a high potential for further education and training independent of location and time, also outside of colleges and universities.

Project partners consist of the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien (UASTW), the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), and the Ulm College of Applied Sciences (THU). Each of the universities contributes with their expertise by creating courses covering topics of Interoperability in Healthcare, Regulatory Affairs for Medical Devices and Data-Driven Technologies for Biomedicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The courses will be publicly available to anyone wishing to improve their knowledge in these fields. <\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course contents from UAS Technikum Wien are related to the study programs Bachelor Biomedical Engineering<\/a>, Master Medical Engineering & eHealth<\/a> and Master Healthcare & Rehabilitation Engineering<\/a>.
