The Robothon – The Grand Challenge took place for the third time. Out of 30 international applications, 20 pre-selected teams took up this year’s challenge: disassembly and sorting of electronic waste. Since the kickoff meeting at the end of March, the teams worked remotely to come up with a solution, which they presented to the Grand Challenge jury in early May. The team TechWi(e)nBot around David Seyser, Sebastian Neuhofer, Julian Smole and Christian Scheidl (students of the bachelor program Mechatronics \/ Robotics at the FH Technikum Wien) is one of the finalists and will be part of the ceremony at automatica on June 29, 2023 in Munich. We keep our fingers crossed for a victory!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fight against industrial pollution<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of hours were spent in their challenge to fight industrial pollution. Once again, the challenge involved the disassembly and sorting of electronic waste, which is to be made even more efficient and sustainable through automated recycling processes. This required enabling robots to autonomously detect, grasp and manipulate loose components in a new production environment.

“We are a team of passionate students in robotics and excited to participate. Our goal was to demonstrate our skills at Robothon – The Grand Challenge and gain hands-on experience in a real-world competition while networking with other robotics experts from around the world,” said Team TechWi(e)nBot from UAS Technikum Wien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valuable contribution to improving industrial recycling processes<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With diverse educational backgrounds in mechatronics, robotics, mechanical and electrical engineering, they brought innovative solutions from different perspectives. With their knowledge and skills, the FHTW team was able to successfully complete the tasks and make a valuable contribution to improving industrial recycling processes.
