The Open Data Expo, which took place on March 7, 2024, attracted numerous interested parties, including visitors from a wide range of walks of life, including HTL school classes and a group from the AMS, which consisted exclusively of women. This diversity was reflected in the diverse conversations and discussions, which underlined the importance of open data for innovation and social progress. The event took place in cooperation with the Vienna Business Agency and was hosted at UAS Technikum Wien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exhibitors and projects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among the exhibitors were important organizations such as MA 01 – Wien Digital (City of Vienna), which presented a fascinating Lego model of the Smart City Wien, which was realized by using FIWARE and LEGO\u00ae. The Traffic Organization (MA 46, City of Vienna) presented their innovative bike router, while the Museums of the City of Vienna provided insights into their open government data of urban archaeology. In addition, the University of Vienna & University for Continuing Education Krems presented important educational projects, including the Austrian Social Science Data Archive (AUSSDA). The UAS Technikum Wien impressed with its work on current open data projects, including the development of a multimodal real-time traffic information & timetable assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dialogue and exchange<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Expo provided a platform for a wide range of discussions and the exchange of ideas between visitors and exhibitors. From discussions on the importance of open data for urban development to practical workshops on data quality, important topics were highlighted and solutions discussed. Particularly noteworthy was the diversity of the participants, who brought different perspectives and experiences to the discussion. The diversity of the projects presented and the lively discussions made it clear that open data is a central building block for a transparent and progressive society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Background and importance of open data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The event underlined the importance of open data for promoting innovation and social progress. The release of data creates new opportunities for the development of innovative applications and solutions. For over 13 years, Open Data Days activities have been taking place around the world with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of open data and unlocking its potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
