{"id":63686,"date":"2024-12-13T14:21:32","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T14:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.technikum-wien.at\/?post_type=news&#038;p=63686"},"modified":"2025-09-08T09:21:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T09:21:14","slug":"ecotoxicological-risk-assessment-lecture-at-a-series-of-seminars-on-water-quality-management","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/content.technikum-wien.at\/en\/news\/ecotoxicological-risk-assessment-lecture-at-a-series-of-seminars-on-water-quality-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecotoxicological Risk Assessment: Lecture at a Series of Seminars on Water Quality Management"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div data-block=\"grid\" data-is-swiper=\"false\" data-columns=\"1\" data-bg-color=\"transparent\" data-vertical-alignment=\"start\" data-horizontal-alignment=\"start\" data-gap=\"s\" data-padding-top=\"2rem\" data-padding-bottom=\"2rem\" data-small-grid=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-ovl-grid\">\n<div data-block=\"grid-column\" class=\"wp-block-ovl-grid-column\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/personal\/romana-hornek-gausterer\/\">Romana Hornek-Gausterer<\/a>, head of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/studiengaenge\/bachelor-nachhaltige-umwelt-und-bioprozesstechnik\/\">bachelor&#8217;s program in Sustainable Environmental and Bioprocess Engineering<\/a>, gave a lecture on the topic \u201cRisk Assessment of Organic Trace Substances in the Aquatic Environment\u201d at the seminar series on water quality management at the Institute for Water Quality and Resource Management at the Vienna University of Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">Estimating the effects of environmental chemicals on ecosystems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus of the lecture was the ecotoxicological risk assessment, which is an important method for estimating the effects of environmental chemicals on ecosystems. However, since aspects such as long-term exposure, indirect effects and chemical mixtures are usually not included in the risk assessment, more comprehensive measures are needed for more meaningful results. Therefore, the focus should be on newer approaches, such as effect-based methods, which enable a more comprehensive assessment. New Approach Methods (NAMs), which serve as a substitute for animal testing, were also discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was followed by a stimulating exchange with students, representatives of the authorities and experts from the water quality industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\"
