The technology company Nejo<\/a>, which specializes in labor market data, published its \u201cLabor Market Radar 2025<\/a>\u201d yesterday. By analyzing over 27,000 current job advertisements, the study provides in-depth insights into the structures and current trends of the Austrian labor market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home office options vary greatly depending on region and salary level<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Overall, 23% of job vacancies offer the option of working from home, although the distribution is highly uneven: in the highest salary bracket (over \u20ac3,100), the proportion is 49%, while in the lowest salary bracket it is less than 2%. Regionally, Vienna clearly leads the way with 41% of all jobs offering the option of working from home, while in provinces such as Lower Austria, Burgenland, and Vorarlberg, the proportion is below the Austrian average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vocational training significantly more in demand than university degrees \u2013 higher academic qualifications rarely explicitly required<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The current job market shows a clear trend toward practical experience: 36% of the job ads we looked at require an apprenticeship\u2014more than twice as many as those that require a college degree (16%). Higher academic degrees like a master’s degree are only explicitly required in 1% of the jobs we looked at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn 30% of the positions analyzed, no specific training requirements are mentioned \u2013 a possible indication of the growing importance of professional experience over formal educational qualifications,\u201d analyzes Aloisious Caraet, author of the study and data scientist at Nejo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology trends of the future: cloud, cyber security, and AI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The study also identifies the most sought-after technology skills on the Austrian job market: Cloud computing ranks first among the most sought-after technology skills. Experts with experience in leading cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud who can support companies in their migration to the cloud are particularly in demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyber security and artificial intelligence share second place among the technology trends. In view of increasing digitalization, securing critical infrastructure and sensitive data is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, advances in AI and machine learning are driving use cases in process automation. \u201cWe expect demand for AI skills to continue to rise,\u201d says Aloisious Caraet, speculating that in the future, the efficient use of AI assistants will become the new standard criterion in job ads, just like \u201cMS Office skills\u201d are today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the hype of recent years, the practical applications of blockchain, virtual and augmented reality remain an absolute niche on the job market in Austria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cLabor Market Radar 2025\u201d is based on an analysis of 27,467 job advertisements posted on company websites throughout Austria on April 22, 2025. The AI technology used for this analysis was funded by FFG Austria (Research Promotion Agency) and developed in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. The study provides a comprehensive overview of the structures and trends of the Austrian labor market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
