{"id":74275,"date":"2025-10-07T14:24:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T14:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.technikum-wien.at\/?post_type=news&#038;p=74275"},"modified":"2025-10-08T14:14:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T14:14:16","slug":"researcher-at-uas-technikum-wien-receives-prestigious-ogai-dissertation-award-for-outstanding-immunology-research","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/content.technikum-wien.at\/en\/news\/researcher-at-uas-technikum-wien-receives-prestigious-ogai-dissertation-award-for-outstanding-immunology-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Researcher at UAS Technikum Wien Receives Prestigious \u00d6GAI Dissertation Award for Outstanding Immunology Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div data-block=\"grid\" data-is-swiper=\"false\" data-columns=\"1\" data-bg-color=\"transparent\" data-vertical-alignment=\"start\" data-horizontal-alignment=\"start\" data-gap=\"s\" data-padding-top=\"2rem\" data-padding-bottom=\"2rem\" data-small-grid=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-ovl-grid\">\n<div data-block=\"grid-column\" class=\"wp-block-ovl-grid-column\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Austrian Society for Allergology and Immunology (\u00d6GAI) awarded the \u201c\u00d6GAI \u2013 Fritz and Ursula Melchers Dissertation Prize\u201d for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of allergology and immunology this year to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/personal\/jana-block\/\">Jana Block<\/a>, lecturer and researcher at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/departments\/life-science-engineering\/\">Department of Life Science Engineering<\/a>.<br><br>Block was honored for her <strong>doctoral thesis<\/strong>, which she completed in the research group of <strong><strong>Univ.-Prof. Kaan Boztug<\/strong><\/strong> at the <strong>St. Anna Children&#8217;s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI)<\/strong>. As part of her dissertation, she identified <strong>germline mutations with loss of function in the DOCK11 gene<\/strong> that cause a previously unknown form of <strong>immune dysregulation<\/strong>.<br><br>Her research showed that DOCK11 mutations affect both <strong>blood formation (hematopoiesis)<\/strong> and <strong>regulation of the immune system<\/strong>. The results provide important new insights into the molecular causes of rare congenital immune disorders and open up long-term prospects for new therapeutic approaches.<br><br>The award ceremony took place during the <strong>\u00d6GAI Symposium on August 17<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>\u201cI am very pleased that my work has been recognized in this way. The award is also a recognition of the excellent research environment at the CCRI and the close interdisciplinary collaboration,\u201d said Jana Block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">Research interests in the field of molecular immunology and cellular signaling pathways<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/personal\/jana-block\/\">Jana Block<\/a> is a lecturer and researcher in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/departments\/life-science-engineering\/\">ell Technologies &amp; Biomaterials<\/a> competence field at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/departments\/life-science-engineering\/\">Department of Life Science Engineering<\/a> at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. Her research interests lie in the field of molecular immunology and cellular signaling pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\"
