2025 was a year full of encounters, inspiration, and practical technology education for the ALMAH 2.0 project. From role model discussions and large participatory formats to school visits as the grand finale, ALMAH inspired young people to take an interest in technology in a variety of ways. ALMAH 2.0 continues to offer tried-and-tested measures such as math tutorials for girls at the Caritas Vienna girls’ center *peppa and a week-long summer camp for girls aged 14-20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has happened so far …<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ALMAH job talks and lab tours in November 2024<\/strong><\/a> focused on personal insights into technical professions. Role models from the FHTW in technology and research reported on their educational and career paths, challenges, and opportunities. This gave participants realistic insights into technical careers and helped them overcome their fears \u2013 an important step in making technology tangible and accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teachers had the opportunity to actively experience technology. In workshops and experiments on the city of the future, Lumina, they tried their hand at building electricity-generating wind turbines, constructed robots with various sensors, and conducted research in water-filled basins using turbines and catch nets. The content was practical and designed to arouse curiosity and motivate participation. By actively involving the teachers, technology could be experienced as something that can be shaped and not just understood theoretically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls and young women immersed themselves intensively in technical topics for several days<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the ALMAH<\/strong> Summer Camp<\/strong><\/a> for girls and young women (July 14-18, 2025<\/strong>), participants immersed themselves intensively in technical topics for several days. In a varied program covering topics such as sustainable energy, mechatronics\/robotics, video production, and 3D printing, they were able to experiment, learn new things, and implement their own ideas. The participants not only acquired in-depth technical skills, but also went into the holidays with greater self-confidence and the experience of being part of a creative technology community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special highlight at the end was the transfer to everyday school life by the teachers themselves. The experiments developed at the Tech Days<\/strong><\/a> were designed so that they could be easily replicated in everyday school life. To this end, suitable components were deliberately selected and understandable instructions and shopping lists were created for teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn December 15, 2025<\/strong>, we brought a finished experiment kit and a kit for independent assembly to the GTVS Spielmanngasse, among others, as part of the Tech@School visits<\/strong>. The experiments had already been embedded in a child-friendly story and visualized as a comic in May \u2013 as illustrative accompanying material with practical technical relevance,\u201d said Sylvia Lingo<\/a>, project manager of ALMAH 2.0<\/a>. Other project staff members in alphabetical order: Nina Czedron, Vanessa Ehmann, Amr Eltabakh, Stephanie Kump, Maria Cecilia Perroni, and Geraldine Metzger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emotional and thoroughly successful finale for ALMAH 2.0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The presentation of the comics was met with particular enthusiasm: sparkling children’s eyes, enthusiastic teachers, and great enjoyment of the experiments made these visits an emotional and thoroughly successful finale for ALMAH 2.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025 has shown how effective technology education can be when it is practical, creative, and age-appropriate. ALMAH 2.0 has built bridges \u2013 between FH Technikum Wien, schools, and young people \u2013 and thus remains a strong example of sustainable promotion of young talent in technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ALMAH 2.0 project ran from April 2024 to December 2025 and was funded by LEA Women’s Fund \u2013 Austrian Fund for the Empowerment and Advancement of Women and Girls<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
