At the end of March 2026, UAS Technikum Wien piloted a guided first mobility experience for colleagues who had never taken part in Erasmus+. The initiative brought together a diverse delegation of ten colleagues from the areas of IT, HR, the Teaching & Learning Center, student advising and administration, quality assurance, project and process management, as well as Computer Science for a joint visit to a partner institution, BHT Berlin<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on Experiences and Exploring Opportunities for Knowledge Transfer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It began with a cautious inquiry as to whether BHT might be interested in welcoming a so-called \u201crookie delegation\u201d from Vienna. And they were! The core of the visit consisted of individual job-shadowing sessions and an exchange of ideas with colleagues working in related fields. Without a fixed agenda, the German-Austrian tandems discussed their respective subject areas, as well as similarities and differences in tasks, challenges, and approaches to solutions. The programme was rounded off with a campus tour, a visit to the Conventional and Renewable Energies laboratory, and a soldering workshop in the \u201cGlasbox\u201d makerspace. For many colleagues, soldering was a first-time experience. In addition, former Erasmus+ students from BHT shared their experiences of their stays at UASTW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of their stay, the delegation came together to reflect on their experiences and to identify opportunities for transferring knowledge back to UASTW. The feedback was clear: the facilitated format not only made participation easier, but also strengthened connections between departments both with BHT and also internally and generated ideas for future collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commitment to More Environmentally Friendly Mobility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Travelling together by train not only created a supportive environment for shared learning, but also reflected a conscious commitment to greener mobility in line with Erasmus+ sustainability goals. In addition to an increased travel grant for green travel, each nine-hour train journey also provides ample time for in-depth internal exchange.

This pilot initiative showed that sometimes, all it takes to get started is the right support\u2014and the right group. We now look forward to welcoming our partners in Vienna and hope this exchange will be just the beginning of many more visits, joined by an even wider circle of colleagues.

In the end, you also realize how many services your own institution already offers. Especially in the areas of digitalization and accessibility, our institution is already very well positioned.
