About 50 students and young researchers from Austria and abroad came to Vienna to spend four days delving deeply into the world of quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum hardware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">Practical workshops and international experts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program offered a balanced combination of <strong>technical presentations in the morning<\/strong> and <strong>hands-on workshops in the afternoon<\/strong>. Participants gained insights into current research topics such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Quantum algorithms on desktop quantum computers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quantum cryptography using the BB84 protocol<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quantum programming with Qiskit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ion trapping and laser-based realization of photonic qubits<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Teaching methods in quantum physics<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshops allowed participants to experience phenomena such as <strong>superposition<\/strong> and <strong>entanglement<\/strong> firsthand and to implement algorithms such as <strong>Deutsch\u2019s<\/strong> and <strong>Grover\u2019s algorithms<\/strong> themselves. The course was taught in English, and no prior knowledge of quantum physics was required\u2014the focus was on <strong>the joy of learning, international networking<\/strong>, and <strong>experimental work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">Science Meets Industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to scientific presentations, the Summer School also featured exciting <strong>Industry Sessions<\/strong> with companies such as <strong>Microsoft, Aricoma, ErsteBank, QTLabs<\/strong>, and <strong>AIT<\/strong>, to name just a few. In his keynote address <strong>\u201cBridging the Gap: From Low-Level Quantum Software to Industrial Applications\u201d<\/strong>, <strong>Stefan Hillmich<\/strong> (SCC Hagenberg) demonstrated how a systematic approach and appropriate software stacks bridge the gap between basic research and industrial applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presentations by experts such as <strong>Andreas Schell<\/strong> (JKU Linz) and <strong>Konrad Szyma\u0144ski<\/strong> (Slovak Academy of Sciences) on quantum information geometry, <strong>Sebastian Knauer<\/strong> (University of Vienna) on nanomagnetism, and <strong>Nat\u00e1lia M\u00f3ller<\/strong> (Slovak Academy of Sciences) on quantum information and gravity further illustrated the breadth of current research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">Enthusiasm and International Networking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The response was overwhelmingly positive: Participants were enthusiastic about the combination of academic depth, hands-on workshops, and open discussion formats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">A strong organizational network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind the successful event was a dedicated organizing team led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/personal\/hermann-detz\/\">Hermann Detz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.technikum-wien.at\/personal\/matthias-blatnik\/\">Matthias Blatnik<\/a>, and Pamina Pawelka (UAS Technikum Wien). The 2025 Summer School once again served as an international gathering place for early-career researchers in quantum research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-ovl-heading\" data-accent=\"true\" data-tag=\"h2\" data-style-level=\"h4\">Outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the great success of this year\u2019s Summer School, one thing is already clear: UAS Technikum Wien will continue to play a central role in education and professional development in the field of <strong>Quantum Technologies<\/strong>\u2014whether through another Summer School (which is already in the planning stages), conferences, or other educational formats.
